Schism tracker appreciation thread! (19)

Just wanted to say thank you again for schism tracker. Your work is much appreciated!

It's my favorite music software. I use it very often.

Should i post about it on various forums and websites ? People seem to ignore its existance. Even if it's one of the best trackers ever.

Should i post about it on slashdot ? (yes i'd do that, if you want). Well, if they accept my post. Perhaps you should write the post yourself if you want it to be perfect...

Whatever...

Thank you, schism tracker enables me to create the music i want.

:)

I think one of the most worthwhile contributions someone can make is simply being an active user – posting here, saying hello once in a while on irc, reporting bugs / missing features / esoteric wishlist requests, etc. I have heard from one or two people that they'd thought Schism Tracker was a dead project since there's not much activity here, and because it's such a quiet userbase. I suppose the two feed off each other to some extent, too.

I visit very often here, but since it is quiet, i remain quiet too.

I read the changelog every week at least once. Thanks for the mac binaries, they work well.

I've seen the bug reports about the 020210 build, i'll post bug reports once i grab a new binary. I'm experiencing some bugs in the 020210 version but i think they'll be fixed in the next build.

I'm very surprised there are only 4 posts here. I'm sure that many more are very grateful for schismtracker, I know I do.
Thank you for keeping the project alive !

+1

Very. Very very very very very. And oh, very. I would have posted a number waaaay higher than 1, but i am only 1 person (unless split personalities count?) :3

Also grateful that i had the opportunity to write a few features, bugfixes, bits&pieces of code... and design the program's logo!! :D :D

Especially grateful that i have this powerful tool in my music creation arsenal - not just "the tracker" or even "THE" tracker... but the best one in existence.

For me, it's really an honor to be part of this project.

Thank you guys for your work! Schism Tracker now seems to be very stable software. I guess I'll make packages for Mandriva 2010.0 & 2010.1 soon. And also promote it on MIB (Mandriva blog & repository) site.

Just found this thread after sending a mail to Storlek...

Thank you so much for Schismtracker. I tried almost everything to run Impulse under XP, but no "solution" worked satisfying.
I already tried Schism a few years ago with Linux - was not happy with it. But now Schism let me do everything I want! Switching to YUV Video Overlay it is even sharp as in the old days and it's really lots of joy to work with it.

After Storlek fixed Midi Start Clock follow (so schism starts playback when i start another audiosoftware that sends midiclock), and implemented ctrl-o (render pattern without stopping playback), Schism turned into pure excellence. thank you so much!

now if only i knew how to sort out the latency-issues with Schism->Soundflower->Host , things would be perfect.

Agreed about EXCELLENCE. But um... so you want playback to stop when rendering stuff, or not?

> 09:34 <+distance> WAIT WHAT
> 09:34 <+distance> shift-f10 DOESNT stop playback?!?!
> 09:35 <+distance> you gotta be fuckin kiddnig me

(sry, just confused)

hi. i have always been strongly FOR sample reverse NOT stopping playback, for playback to NOT be stopped when someone cuts a piece of loop from a sample. schism used to stop on those, for some reason. there's other examples. after Storlek changed it so that playback doesn't stop on those, he suddenly gave Ctrl-O to us, which also doesn't stop playback. it is pure heaven being able to keep playing a pattern, and render-whats playing to a sample. then be able to save the sample in .wav format, without playback stopping. i know that ctrl-o in f11 doesnot stop playback either, which is amazing work.

but as i was looking at this stuff, i was at first requesting a way to diskwrite 2 patterns at a time, because i often have sounds with long tails, that wrap over the end of the pattern to the beginning of the sample. Storlek seemed against it, and with good reason. but then i was playing a pattern, and went to shift-f10, and recorded 4 patterns to a wavefile. all with pattern playback on. that is what i was reacting to, which was utter absolutely surprise that Schism allows you to play back the song, while diskwriting it to a singular Wavefile. that's just freakin amazing, man, and totally unexpected!!!!

It does better than that, if you diskwrite multi-channel it still doesn't stop. In fact, I don't think anything except pressing "stop" will stop playback anymore, and any counterexamples are bugs. :)
